Overview
ServeDrop is developed by John Youssef under the CompuJohnny developer name. It is a local-network file-sharing utility with no CompuJohnny account, advertising, analytics SDK, or publisher-operated cloud service.
Same-Wi-Fi sharing runs FTP or FTPS on the Android device's active network. Phone-hotspot sharing creates a temporary local Wi-Fi network and runs FTP plus a browser file portal. You choose when sharing starts, which files are available, what the receiver may do, whether a fresh session code is required, and when the session stops.
Data CompuJohnny collects
ServeDrop does not send personal data, file contents, file names, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, crash reports, connection history, or account information to CompuJohnny. CompuJohnny does not sell or share user data from ServeDrop.
Information kept on your device
ServeDrop stores the choices needed to restore setup, including the selected connection route, storage scope, Android-selected folder reference, receiver access level, session-code preference, appearance, FTP port, and FTPS preference. It also stores the remaining browser-trial count, cached Browser Pro ownership, and whether a Google Play payment is pending.
A legacy FTP credential and locally generated FTPS key material may remain in private app or Android Keystore storage. A protected session's six-digit code is generated when sharing starts and is not saved as an ordinary preference. ServeDrop does not retain a transfer history after the sharing session ends.
Browser Pro and Google Play Billing
Same-Wi-Fi sharing is free. Phone-hotspot browser sharing includes three completed trial sessions and can be unlocked with a one-time Browser Pro purchase through Google Play.
ServeDrop uses Google Play Billing to show the localized price, start a purchase, check status, restore eligible ownership, and acknowledge delivery. Google Play processes payment information under Google's terms and privacy policy. ServeDrop does not receive card or bank details. Purchase results, the product identifier, and a purchase token are processed between ServeDrop and Google Play; there is no CompuJohnny billing server.
A trial is used once for a hotspot session only after its first successful non-empty upload or download, or completed folder ZIP. Browsing, searching, setup, failed or cancelled transfers, zero-byte transfers, and file-management-only actions do not use a trial.
File and device access
All shared files uses Android's All files access permission to reach supported shared storage. One folder uses Android's system folder picker and a persisted permission for only that folder and its subfolders. App sharing folder uses ServeDrop's own storage without broad file access.
Nearby-device permission, or location permission on older Android versions, enables a user-requested local hotspot. Network access lets ServeDrop accept local connections and show a reachable address. A foreground service, wake lock, Wi-Fi lock, and notification keep a sharing session available and give you a visible Stop action.
The receiver is limited to the access level you select: Read only, Download & add, or Full access. Full access can allow rename, move, replace, and delete inside the selected scope.
Local transfers and security
Files and commands travel directly between your Android device and the receiver on the selected local Wi-Fi network or temporary hotspot. They are not routed through or stored on a CompuJohnny server. During a session, ServeDrop processes local connection addresses, requests, file names, and transfer progress in memory so it can serve files and show activity.
Standard FTP and the hotspot browser portal are not encrypted. FTPS can encrypt FTP credentials and file transfers for compatible clients and uses a locally generated self-signed certificate, so a client may show a trust prompt. A session code controls access but does not encrypt traffic. Use ServeDrop only with nearby people and networks you trust, and stop sharing when finished.
The receiving browser may store a temporary session cookie. It is limited to the active local portal and becomes unusable when the sharing session stops. Private app settings are held in Android app-private storage, and FTPS key material is protected by private app or Android Keystore storage.
Other parties
When you give another person or device the local connection details, you direct ServeDrop to make the selected files available to that receiver. The receiving device, browser or FTP client, and local network are outside CompuJohnny's control. Google Play Billing handles the optional purchase as described above.
ZXing generates QR codes locally. Plus Jakarta Sans, Space Mono, and Material interface assets are bundled with the app; these components do not receive data from ServeDrop.
Retention and deletion
Android backup is disabled for ServeDrop. Clearing ServeDrop's storage or uninstalling it removes private settings, the local trial counter, cached ownership state, and locally retained FTPS material. Clearing data or reinstalling may reset the on-device trial counter. An eligible Browser Pro purchase can be restored from the purchasing Google Play account.
Android may separately retain or remove a system-granted folder permission according to platform behavior. Files added to shared storage remain under your control and can be deleted with Android's file tools. CompuJohnny holds no server copy or transfer history to delete.
Children, changes, and contact
ServeDrop is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children or other users.
